Assinica CHP

Les Chantiers de Chibougamau Ltd is a major sawmill installed at Chibougamau. Founded in 1961, this company is recognized for their engineered wood products. In view of optimizing the use of their wood residues les Chantiers de Chibougamau mandated EnPhase for project Assinica. EnPhase is responsible for all aspects or project management of the 4.5 MW ORC CHP plant, including all permitting and the successful bid for a 25 year contract to sell power into the Hydro-Quebec grid. An ORC plant with thermal oil fluid boiler were selected because of the context of the project with a limited pool of skilled labor and the distance to suppliers.

First nations biomass power plant

A first nations community with its principal economic activity being a sawmill is presently supplied by Hydro-Quebec diesel gensets. Power delivered by the gensets no longer meets demand. To answer this problem and valorize the sawmill wood residues, the community is evaluating a biomass power plant project and has mandated EnPhase to help them choose the appropriate technologies.

Boisaco CHP

Bioenergie Sacre-Cœur S.E.C. signed a 25 year contract with Hydro-Quebec for a biomass CHP to deliver 9.9 MW of electricity at Sacré-Cœur to Hydro-Quebecs grid. The partnership is composed of Boisaco and Hydromega Services inc, a hydroelectric expert. EnPhase was mandated to conduct the pre-feasibility study.

Furthermore, EnPhase is working on other biomass CHP projects for Hydromega Services.

Mine reclamation

Prior to the 1990s the mining industry legacy for future generations was left as mine tailing sites that contaminate the water table and the waterways on a large scale. Present day mining operations must restore their sites and are in need of methods that are effective and economically viable while meeting environmental and social objectives.

Mr Lemay’s and Dr Lucien Bordeleau’s experience allow EnPhase to stand out in this field. The abandoned Opémiska mine site was stabilized, restructured and revegetated by Dr Bordeleau of Biolisitk Bordeleau Ltée and Mr Lemay in the early 2000s. Their methodology was based on the application of ashes produced by the Chapais Energie CHP plant. Today EnPhase can replicate this successful innovative procedure.

With the agreement of the MERN EnPhase is now working with mining engineers, agronomy and microbiology researchers as well as with the URSTM on a reclamation demonstration project for an acid generating mine tailing site using wood ashes. EnPhase is also working with two other mining operations to establish mine tailing reclamation procedures using wood ashes.
